Faith

Faith is not vital in the hours of ecstasy
When buoyant Hope sits happily enthroned,
When laughter ripples through the carefree shallows,
But when we stand disowned.

When freedom, honor, light, and joy have left us,
And thrust alone upon a sea of grief,
There on a raft of trust in troubled waters,
We find the value of a sure belief.

A quiet faith, not frantic in its clinging,
But with a resoluteness, holding still,
Finding mid the tumult rest from sorrow,
Secure within the center of God's will.
